Housing Options Officer (Prevention & Relief)

Are you an experienced Housing Options Officer with a strong understanding of the Homelessness Reduction Act 2017 and a passion for preventing homelessness?
We’re working with a local authority to recruit a Housing Options Officer on an initial 3-month contract, with the potential for extension. This is a great opportunity to join a busy, high-performing team and make a real difference in supporting vulnerable residents at risk of homelessness.
Key Responsibilities:

Conduct comprehensive homelessness assessments under Part VII of the Housing Act 1996

Create and implement Personalised Housing Plans (PHPs) to prevent or relieve homelessness

Apply knowledge of the Homelessness Reduction Act 2017, including Prevention and Relief duties

Work closely with landlords, supported accommodation providers, and third-party agencies to secure suitable housing solutions

Make appropriate Section 184 decisions and manage case files using housing systems such as Locata or Jigsaw (training can be provided)

Liaise with internal and external partners to support wraparound housing services

Provide expert housing advice, advocacy, and signposting
Ideal Candidate:
-
Proven experience as a Housing Options or Homelessness Officer in a local authority or similar setting

Up-to-date knowledge of housing legislation, including HRA 2017 and Part VII

Able to manage a complex caseload and make sound, lawful decisions

Strong written and verbal communication skills
-
Able to work independently and as part of a team, with a proactive approach

Experience with housing systems or similar case management tools is desirable
